Physically our bodies need time to heal a wound. Usually, most people understand that and give their body time to heal. But emotionally, we are not so kind to ourselves. We tend to push through or ignore it like it will go away in time. We can become bitter and allow it to rule our life and our relationships suffer for it. The wound could be someone who said something that hurt our feelings, something they did, or even someone we love who died. No matter how it happened, we were hurt and have pain that must heal.
A physical wound takes nursing and time to heal. There is a time for a wound to be bandaged. But first it should be cleaned it out. This is usually more difficult to do. When the wound has been cleaned and you can feel the fresh hurt and pain, healing can begin. At this time, it's up to you to allow it to be open to the air and keep it clean. You have to clean it everyday until it's completely healed.
Our emotions are just like this. One must allow the emotional wound to be cleaned, open to air out, and kept clean until it heals. Many emotional wounds are closed up for years. During that time, the wound is allowed to fester and get more infected than if it would allowed to be exposed and cleaned right away.
God has a way of opening even the oldest of our emotional wounds and cleaning them. Sometimes they are painless and sometimes they hurt more than the day it happened.
God opened and cleaned a wound that I kept bandaged for years. HE cleaned it. HE aired it out. And HE healed it. I praise God for His healing power.
